In a monumental move forward for the 21.600 m2 project located on the harbor front of Århus, a topping out ceremony was held to commemorate the placement of the final beam. The project stands as a symbol for the transformation of the harbor front from a post-industrial zone to an attractive residential complex and cultural hub. JDS RECIPIENT OF SPORTS PRIZE AWARDED BY THE DANISH MINISTRY OF CULTURE

Julien De Smedt and Bjarke Ingels were joint recipients of the Copenhagen Sports Award presented by the Minister of Culture, Uffe Elbæk, on the 24th of August, 2012. JDS was singled out for their performative architecture projects both in Denmark and abroad, specifically the Kalvebod Waves Harbour Bath in Copenhagen, the Faaborg Harbour Bath in Fyn and the Holmenkollen Ski Jump in Olso. CAEN MASTER PLAN PROPOSAL ON EXHIBIT

The master plan competition proposals of Caen, France are currently on exhibition to the public. “3 Visions for 1 Project” from JDS+FRANCOIS LECLERCQ, MVRDV and AUC will be displayed at Caen Presqu’ile from 2nd of June until the 31st of July. JDS SELECTED TO DESIGN A NEW CAMPUS FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF ITALIAN SWITZERLAND IN MENDRISIO

JDS will take part in a competition to design a new campus for the Professional University School of Italian Switzerland (SUPSI) in Mendrisio, Switzerland. The site is located in close proximity to the central railway station and will be used to house the Environmental Construction and Design Department (DACD). HANGZHOU PROJECT ISSUED FINAL APPROVAL TO BUILD

JDS along with MUDI, China United Engineering Corporation and New Tecnic Façade Architects and Technology are proud to announce that the final approval has now been issued by the government of Hangzhou for the Hangzhou H tower in Hangzhou Xin Tian Di new urban area. The building will be a new landmark and gateway as part of this mixed use development which combines renovation of old factory structures with new buildings from International and Chinese Architects. JDS won 1st prize for the project as part of a limited competition in September 2010 and have since set up an office in Shanghai to complete this project and to service our other Asian Clients. JDS Selected for Competition to Design Square de l’Accueil / ONTHAALSQUARE

JDS in cooperation with Greisch, have been selected for a competition to design Square de l’Accueil / Onthaalsquare in Brussels. The program includes housing, retail, extension of the school, underground parking and public place. The project is rather sensitive to us as it includes the extension of Julien’s primary school as well as taking down and replacing the house where he grew up.
The New York City Brownstone Stoop For Every City

In collaboration with Vestre, we are pleased to present Stoop, a public bench with multiple seating levels, allowing people to sit in a way that is less prescribed, more flexible and more social. Making its debut earlier this year at the Stockholm Furniture fair, the bench line has now been extended with a galvanized steel frame and wooden planks. Stoop was recently featured on FastCoDesign about its “literal attempt to formalize a type of space that’s been around for centuries”. See the details of our project here.
The Iceberg Nears Completion

The Iceberg project is moving steadily towards completion for the summer of 2013. Situated on the Århus harbor front, the Iceberg will be the first construction as part of a masterplan to reinvigorate the industrial water front to a residential and commercial hub. The four building blocks will consist of 210 apartments varying from 50 m2 to 200 m2 in size.
