Our Iceberg Project, a residential apartment complex in Århus, Denmark, has been nominated one of the 4 finalists for the 2013 MIPIM Residential Award. The award ceremony is held in Cannes, France from the 12-15 of March. We’ll keep our fingers crossed until then. Click here to see more of the Iceberg.

JDS AND BALMORI TEAM UP FOR LEXINGTON

We teamed up with Diana Balmori for an invited competition to rethink Downtown Lexington, Kentucky. The project establishes, around the dayligthting of the Towns Branch Commons creek, a series of potential developments, among others the renovation of the Rupp Arena by Spacegroup and a proposal to turn its surrounding neighborhood into a hybrid of park and mix programs to boost its living qualities. JDS SHORTLISTED FOR TOWNS BRANCH COMMONS MASTER PLAN IN LEXINGTON KENTUCKY

Our team is selected as 1 of 5 to compete for the ambitious Town Branch Commons, bringing Town Branch Creek to the surface for the first time in more than 100 years!
The JDS core team is composed of Balmori (NYC) for landscape, Nitsch Engineering (Boston), Atelier Ten (NYC) for sustainable development and ourselves as lead.

Excerpts from Kentucky.com the Lexington Herald Leader: ‘…Town Branch Commons, envisioned as a two-mile stretch of green space through downtown, was a major recommendation of the Arena, Arts and Entertainment District master plan.
The plan was developed in 2011 by architect Gary Bates and the Norway-based architectural firm Space Group. Bates’ idea was to bring the creek to the surface in some form and create a linear park to connect the entertainment district on the west end with the rest of downtown.’

Never before have so many foreign architects won competitions or received commissions in Norway. What is the impact of increasing internationalization on the identity
and quality of Norwegian architecture? Alongside the likes of Steven Holl, MVRDV, Peter Zumthor or Renzo Piano, Julien De Smedt Architects will present over 10 different projects designed for Norwegian public and private clients.
