JDS WINS THE WAN AWARD OF LEADING ARCHITECTS FOR THE 21ST CENTURY

17 May, 2011 at 9:00

World Architecture News judges have selected JDS as one of WAN’s 21 Architects for the 21st Century.

The initiative aims to highlight 21 architects who could be the leading lights of architecture in the 21st century; outstanding, forward-thinking people and organisations who have the demonstrable potential to be the next big thing in the architectural world. The jurors were looking for architects whose directional ideas are helping to shape the future of architecture, whilst keeping within the boundaries of commercial viability and sustainability.

The review concluded that only the five entries that absolutely blew the jury away on every count should be awarded ‘winners’, while sixteen practices were given the prestigious accolade of ‘highly commended.’ The five that were eventually selected as the leading exponents of the future of architecture were as follows: Atelier Ryo Abe (Japan), JDS Architects (Belgium/Denmark), Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos (Spain), Patterson Associates (New Zealand) and Reiulf Ramstad Architects (Norway).

18 March, 2011 at 14:00

JDS Architects together with KLAR, Creo Architects and Sloth-Møller engineers, have won first prize for the new Faaborg Harbour Bath in the south of Fyn, Denmark.

The concept of the bath is based on the idea of creating an open sea bathing area with piers branching out seawards creating swimming areas between them.

The wooden piers form ramps, stairs, sitting opportunities and small pools for children. The Harbour Bath has changing rooms, a sauna and a 300 m² meeting point for boat tourism on land.

The Faaborg Harbour Bath will give the town of Faaborg a new public water space which will attract visitors and invite the locals to swim and enjoy water sports.
