The 7th annual World Architecture Congress was a resounding success, bringing together architects and designers from across the globe to discuss challenging issues of sustainability, urban development, city regeneration and contemporary vernacular. Inaugurating the event were award winning architects, JDS of Denmark, represented by Partner and Copenhagen Director, Hening Stüben, who discussed the creation of iconic architecture utilising cutting-edge sustainable technologies. Supported by the American Institute of Architects and the Royal Institute of British Architects, and sponsored by Hespano Décor, the congress revealed the practical applications and economic benefits of sustainable architecture through a series of presentations, panel discussions and roundtables with leading architects and public figures, including Rashad Bukhash, Director of Architectural Heritage Department at the Dubai Municipality and elected Member of Parliament. The congress concluded on a practical note with a half-day workshop led by Dr. Robert Cooke, Associate at Buro Happold on methods of using integrated design techniques to deliver more sustainable projects.

Andrew Griffin will speaking at the Annual RIAI conference on the Internationalisation panel discussion:
RIAI President Paul Keogh also stressed the urgency of the procurement reform and said that the Conference looks at the future of Irish architecture and at the core values of the profession: “We must retain the value of what we do as architects and how we can contribute to the urgent issues of a growing urbanised society and internationalisation.”
The RIAI Annual Conference took place on 23 and 24 October 2011 in VISUAL Carlow. Designed by Terry Pawson Architects, the building won an RIAI Irish Architecture Award for ‘Best Cultural Building’ in 2010.

Irish Architecture Foundation in association with OFFSET2012 andThe Small Print present the Irish premiere of ‘Urbanized’, the last in the design trilogy documentary series by Gary Hustwit who will be in attendance. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with Hustwit, chaired by Ciaran O’Gaora of Zero-G and featuring perspectives from Dublin City Planner Dick Gleeson, academic Sylia Loeffler, filmmaker Nicky Gogan, NAMAlab’s Dermot Boyd and Andrew Griffin of JDS Architects Copenhagen.
