One of the main characteristics of Kiel is that it gets its essence from the harbour. From the sails of its ships, to its bridges across the channel, to the massiveness of the cruises. Kiel always remembers that its by the sea. Capital of the largest sailing boat festival in the world, home of one of the best handball teams on the planet, important strategic communication and transport hub in the north of Germany, Kiel is and feels like a dynamic and vibrant city, from its urban feel down to the people that live there. Our project represents the effort to bring back the people and the city back to the water. To create anaxis and access, visual and physical, with a single urban gesture. To create a space of social interaction, but also, of urban integration between the port and the city.
